Opening Night Movie: Fall Guy with Dale Sunshine Frye, Hollywood stuntman
April 25 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Fall Guy
Get ready to drop, roll, or just stroll to meet Hollywood stuntman and action movie hero Dale Sunshine Frye at Carolina Cinemas-Sandhills Ten this Thursday, May 2. Frye has performed stunts in many major motion pictures, including: The Notebook, Die Hard 3, We’re the Millers, and A Walk to Remember.
Frye will be answering questions, signing autographs, and participating in a live remote broadcast with Star 102.5, hosted by Patrick Kelly. He was also World Kickboxing Champ for five years, and he has an impressive list of stunt skills he performs on land, sea, and air.
Frye’s visit coincides with the opening of The Fall Guy in theaters, where Ryan Gosling stars as smoldering stunt man Colt Seavers, trying to win the heart of the flustered and fabulous Emily Blunt. Not just an action powerhouse, the movie holds major appeal for fans of rom-com, murder mystery, and the hilarious timing and chemistry of Gosling and Blunt.
After a major injury, Gosling’s character has been off the set for a year, but he is lured back to work with his former flame on a sci-fi thriller set in Australia. Novice film director Jody Moreno, played by Blunt, is in over her head, and soon her major star disappears. Rumors abound, and Seavers is convinced to search for the actor. This time the danger isn’t staged, and there is no net for Seavers.
The film is loosely based on the 80s TV series, featuring Lee Majors. Majors, who served as both actor and stuntman and set a high bar for TV tough guys, has a role in the big screen version.
Director David Leitch, clearly no novice, is a former stuntman himself, with directorial credits for John Wick and Deadpool 2. Leitch seamlessly transitions the film from explosive action-packed stunt lover’s dream to heart-pounding intrigue, then lets audiences relax and enjoy the charming flirtation of the lead actors. Leitch calls the film a “love letter to the stunts and the blue collar crews” that bring action movies to life. The film even broke a Guinness World record for rolling a Jeep Cherokee eight and a half times, thanks to stuntman Logan Holladay.
The Fall Guy boasts an excellent cast, but fans will likely be too busy with their couple crush on Gosling and Blunt to notice. Moviegoers take advice from a friend: stay for the credits.
