Reimagined by Gil Hanse in 2018, Course No. 4 offers a modern take on Donald Ross' original design. Visually stunning from tee to green, the new No. 4 features strategic bunkering, natural hazards, and a captivating layout. Hanse’s design is bolstered by the most interesting topography of Pinehurst Resort, with a shimmering lake as its centerpiece. Industry leaders were so impressed that No. 4 was chosen to host the 2019 U.S. Amateur just one year after Hanse’s redesign. While No. 4 has been through a number of iterations since it was first built by Ross in 1919, Hanse’s version is the most stunning. With natural ridgelines defining corridors, golfers are treated to a brazen blend of sand, native wire grasses and water. Hanse's renovation reintroduced rugged edges and a more natural aesthetic, bringing Ross's original vision to life with a contemporary twist.
