The popular monthly Lunch n’ Learn program will be presented by Dr. Julia Hans about ‘Penny Postcards.’ Did you know that more than 900 million penny postcards were in circulation in the United States during the Golden Age of Postcards (1900-1915)? Hans is a historian and local author who will speak about the history of the Penny Postcard in the United States and about the unique postcard collections at the Moore County Historical Association. Hans will discuss how she came to write her latest book with Arcadia Publishing, Postcard History Series: Southern Pines. This new book features more than 200 historic postcards from the MCHA collection and tells the story of Southern Pines from the perspective of everyday writers and readers. Autographed copies of her book will be on sale after the talk.
Beginning promptly at 10 a.m. guests will enjoy her talk, followed by a chef Katrina lunch, beverage and dessert. For more information and registration, call the SWE at 910-295-4677.
