Snuggled amid the rolling hills and pine forests of Southern Pines, and a smooth 9-iron from its sister property, Talamore Golf Resort, Mid South Club stands as a premier destination for golf enthusiasts seeking an exceptional playing experience in a picturesque setting. Designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in 1995, this championship golf course offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and challenging play.
Widely renowned as one of the Carolinas’ most attractive private residential golf communities and former host site to numerous championship competitions, Mid South is set on 545 acres of longleaf pine forests, lakes and gently rolling hillsides provide a backdrop for a place of beauty and serenity.
The Mid South course showcases the King’s signature design elements, including generous fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and subtly contoured greens. The layout incorporates the area’s natural features seamlessly, with pristine lakes and lush vegetation adding to the course’s aesthetic appeal while presenting golfers with strategic challenges. As players navigate the course, they are treated to stunning views of the surrounding landscape, creating a memorable backdrop for their round.
During a recent remastering project, greens were restored to the original Palmer designs, resulting in a 25 percent larger putting surface, and the addition of generous 60-inch Tif Grand green collars. The new Champion Bermuda putting surfaces provide significantly better playing conditions than its bent grass predecessor and put Mid South’s greens on par with the other top courses in the area that previously made the switch to Bermuda greens – Pinehurst No. 2, No. 8, Country Club of North Carolina, Pine Needles, Mid Pines and Tobacco Road.
