There are many equestrian activities at two of the premier area equestrian centers the Pinehurst Harness Track and the Carolina Horse Park to be a spectators of the majestic equine. If you have your own horse enjoy the 4,000 acres to ride on the wooded nature preserve Walthour-Moss Foundation just for horses.

Enjoy the Trails

Did you know Moore County has more than 20 trails with miles to explore. A visit to Weymouth Woods to see the oldest longleaf pine in the world in Southern Pines is a must. More traditional hiking trails can be explored on the Bear Creek Trail system in Robbins along Bear Creek. Whether you need a quick moment in nature or hours of fun, we have something to offer everyone on our trails.

From our pick-your-own seasonal fresh and delectable fruit and vegetable fields, to nearby produce stands, to local farmers’ markets, to neighborhood farm to table restaurants, to hospitable family farms to our the area winery and breweries, you will find there’s much to explore in Moore County.

Chances are, if you dine at a local restaurant, some of the fruits, vegetables and other products are like were grown, or produced on our farms! It doesn’t get any fresher than that, does it? And tastes so good! So, put down your golf clubs and come explore the seasonless farm-rich heritage awaiting you in Moore County!

Mural Trail

In recent years, Moore County has joined the national trend for the creation of murals to be commissioned in a number of its towns. More than a dozen murals can be found from downtown areas to the rural countryside. The highest concentration of murals is located in Carthage, the county seat of Moore County. In the immediate downtown area adjacent to courthouse square, a total of five murals can be seen. Those murals depict either the history, culture, lifestyle, or notable persons from the town. You will also find murals all across Moore County from Robbins to the north and Aberdeen to the southern end of the county, including ones in Southern Pines, Vass and Cameron.

Moore County, NC has as much charm, history, livability, and spirit as any other place in the country. It has long been a destination for health benefits, literary enlightenment, and the ultimate challenge in golf. Moore County is becoming more known for its arts and cultural offerings too. Adding to the unique experiences is the increase in public art installations, such as the murals in Carthage and Southern Pines, or the Patrick Dougherty sculpture at Sandhills Community College Gardens.

Golf Galore

With nearly 40 golf courses within a 15-mile radius, including the host courses for the 2024 U.S. Open and 2022 U.S. Women’s Open Championships, it’s no surprise that the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area is known as the Home of American Golf®. We will soon be the home of “Golf House Pinehurst”, too. The USGA will establish a second headquarters in Pinehurst, to include a new equipment-testing facility, innovation hub, museum/visitor center and offices by 2023, and will host five U.S. Open Championships on Pinehurst No. 2 by 2047.

Nestled in the rolling Sandhills of central North Carolina, the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area was also the long-time home to the father of golf course architecture, Donald Ross, and is home to many of his masterpieces and some of golf’s most memorable moments.
