Program Information
When you were a child, did you ever read stories about pirates and treasures? You probably have not thought about those stories for many years. But the Moore County Historical Association is going to rekindle your interest in those stories. As part of its lecture series, the Association is sponsoring a talk by Linda Carnes-McNaughton, Ph.D. This is the story of Edward Teach, more commonly known as the notorious Blackbeard, the Pirate. In her lecture, Dr. Carnes-McNaughton will offer an illustrated journey of the ship’s history, its use as a French privateer, then as a slave ship, and then its capture and use as a pirate flagship. The lecture will highlight 18th-century artifacts found on the famous North Carolina shipwreck. She will bring copies of her book which may be purchased at a discount price of $20 for attendees and will happily sign them. Southern Pines Civic Club is located at 105 S. Ashe St. at the corner of Pennsylvania Ave. |
