CVB Partners with Pinehurst Business Partners to Announce Rock the Village: A Spectacular Art Installation Project for the 124th U.S. Open
Pinehurst, N.C. — June 2, 2023 — Pinehurst Business Partners, in collaboration with the Village of Pinehurst and the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is thrilled to announce Rock the Village, an extraordinary art installation project designed to captivate visitors during the highly anticipated 2024 U.S. Open.
Rock the Village will showcase the exceptional talents of local artists as they transform rocking chairs into magnificent works of art. These one-of-a-kind chairs, painted with creativity and passion, will be prominently displayed throughout the Village center, offering a delightful and immersive experience for residents and visitors alike.
Partnering with the esteemed Troutman Chair Company, Rock the Village ensures lasting pieces of art by utilizing the company’s century-long legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and commitment to producing exquisite handcrafted rocking chairs.
From traditional to contemporary, each rocking chair will reflect the individual artist’s interpretation of Pinehurst’s charm, beauty, and history and the game of golf. Strategically placed at various locations throughout the village, the transformed chairs will invite U.S. Open attendees and residents to engage with the artwork, experience moments of tranquility, and revel in the ambiance of Pinehurst.
“From a tourism standpoint, the CVB is always seeking new ways to provide unique experiences for the 1.5 million visitors to Moore County annually which provide enjoyment for residents as well,” said Phil Werz, president and CEO of the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The Rock the Village campaign combines the talents of our local artists with a way to uniquely reinforce we are the Home of American Golf during the 124th U.S. Open. We’re excited to join Pinehurst Business Partners and the Village of Pinehurst for this fun and unique project.”
This ambitious project aims to celebrate the unique cultural heritage of Pinehurst while creating a visually stunning environment that complements the excitement and energy surrounding the prestigious U.S. Open. The vibrant and diverse art pieces, created by local artists, will serve as a testament to the rich artistic talent within our community.
Rock the Village will kick off with a grand reveal in May 2024, prior to the start of the U.S. Open. Throughout the summer, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the awe-inspiring collection of art chairs, sparking conversations and fostering a sense of community pride.
“We are delighted to collaborate with the Village of Pinehurst and the Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring Rock the Village to life,” said Katrin Franklin, President of Pinehurst Business Partners. “This project showcases the incredible talent of our local artists while providing a unique and unforgettable experience for residents and visitors during the U.S. Open. We believe this art installation will further enhance the sense of community and pride in Pinehurst.”
As the “Home of American Golf,” Pinehurst is already renowned for its world-class golf courses and unparalleled hospitality. Rock the Village adds another layer of charm and creativity to Pinehurst, reinforcing its reputation as a vibrant and culturally rich community.
Additionally, Rock the Village aims to make a lasting impact by supporting First Tee – Sandhills, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young individuals through the game of golf. By fostering character development and instilling valuable life skills, this collaboration with First Tee – Sandhills will help young individuals build a solid foundation for success both on and off the golf course.
Rock the Village will be made possible through the generous support and sponsorship of local businesses and community members. We are grateful for their commitment to fostering arts and culture within our beloved village.
