And yet, what has followed in Pinehurst Resort’s growth in the 10 years since might be even more impressive — all of it bookended by the decade between U.S. Opens, which returned to No. 2 for the fourth time in Pinehurst’s history in June 2024.
The Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame is just one of several interesting venues in the Sandhills for golf history buffs. The lobby of the Carolina Hotel, the anchor of the sprawling Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, is open to the public and chock full after a recent renovation of interesting visual elements — from vintage photos dating back more than a century to a timeline of significant golf milestones at the resort.
Nothing in 30 years has changed my early opinions: Pinehurst is the spiritual home of golf in the United States and St. Andrews the spiritual home of golf in Scotland — and for the rest of the world. There are no two places on earth where the senses are so saturated by golf. For all the traits they share, Pinehurst and its surrounding communities and St. Andrews with its web of proximate villages could be considered first cousins, perhaps even siblings. Yet their differences highlight how special and unique each destination is.
Boasting an abundance of picturesque spaces and memorable places, Moore County — including the Southern Pines, Pinehurst, and Aberdeen communities — serves up plenty of opportunities for a #SandhillsSelfie.
Besides boutique shopping and spa treatments, you can take a historical walking tour or go for a hike. There are great coffee shops to linger in and fantastic restaurants serving innovative cuisine using local ingredients with a southern twist.
Among the things that we particularly enjoy around the Sandhills are a round of golf followed by an ice-cold brew. We thought this would be the perfect time to celebrate some of the area’s most enticing spots to bend your elbow and enjoy our friendly cheer across the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen area of North Carolina.
