Nine North Carolina golf courses have been included in Golf Magazine’s annual ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses You Can Play in the U.S. for 2024-25. All nine of them are located in the Pinehurst area!
There’s a Sesame Street song that says, “Who are the people in your neighborhood?” I would ask, how well do you know the people in your Pinehurst neighborhood? When I was in town, I met some of the absolute nicest people.
We found a ton of things to do, fun facts, and just general surprises when we were in town. We wanted to share them so you don’t miss anything when you’re planning your trip to the Sandhills of North Carolina.

The Pinehurst Outlook in early January 1919 celebrated the riches of the local golf experience, writing of the annual Mid-Winter Tournament and of a Tin Whistles competition.
James Tufts’ letter is just one of hundreds of interesting historical artifacts on display in an exhibit built around the idea of “Fifty Moments in Pinehurst” located in the USGA Experience Building, Golf House Pinehurst. This particular area on the ground floor will be dedicated over time to rotating exhibits, with some artifacts and memorabilia coming from some 85,000 pieces in storage in the USGA’s headquarters in Liberty Corner, N.J.
But the true allure is a slow stroll through the aisles of lockers and a close examination of the artifacts and pieces of memorabilia the inductees and/or their families have provided for display.
The dining scene in the Sandhills has been recently enhanced by Maniac Grill, the name borrowed from the “Maniac Hill” moniker bestowed on the Pinehurst practice range in the early 1900s. The name on the side of the truck is accented with the slogan “Crazy good food,” and for now the Maniac Grill will make its home at Pinehurst No. 10 with appearances around the resort and town on other occasions.
