The Rock Welcomes Back NASCAR
For the first time in over a decade NASCAR will return to the south-central North Carolina Piedmont for the highly anticipated return of major league stock car racing to Rockingham Speedway.
Good Eats in the Sandhills
The dining scene in the Sandhills has been recently enhanced by Maniac Grill, the name borrowed from the “Maniac Hill” moniker bestowed on the Pinehurst practice range in the early 1900s. The name on the side of the truck is accented with the slogan “Crazy good food,” and for now the Maniac Grill will make its home at Pinehurst No. 10 with appearances around the resort and town on other occasions.
The Fall Foursome (And Beyond)
They come from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and all points on the compass. The weather is starting to turn and cool off. The lure of the famous courses they’ve seen on television — Pinehurst No. 2 for the U.S. Open and Pine Needles for the Women’s Open, for example — beckons groups of four golfers up to a couple dozen to flock to the Sandhills of North Carolina. The variety of golf designs from Donald Ross to Tom Fazio to Tom Doak renders too many choices and not enough time.
Pinehurst Area Basks in U.S. Open Glow
A rare bright spot during the eye of the pandemic came in early September 2020, when the United States Golf Association named Pinehurst Resort and Country Club’s legendary No. 2 course as its first “anchor site” for U.S. Open Championships.
