The Magnolia Course at Pinewild Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1989, and quickly put Pinewild on the map — teeing up a thrilling golf adventure set against the backdrop of Pinehurst’s scenic landscape. Designed by Gene Hamm, this 18-hole, par-72 design is characterized by vast elevation changes, generous driving areas, strategic bunkering and spacious, challenging greens. With its rolling terrain and subtle elevation changes, the Magnolia Course offers a dynamic and engaging round of golf. Magnolia trees grace the course, infusing it with their timeless elegance and adding to the overall ambiance — a fantastic layout with an emphasis on risk/reward golf.
Hole No. 2 is one of the most aesthetically pleasing holes and it truly showcases Hamm’s design style. Golfers can do their best to avoid the old pine tree on No. 8, but it seems to always be in everyone’s business and never nice. And to finish on No. 18 is a joy to behold. The elevated tee box affords you a spectacular view that encompasses the putting green, the fairway, pond, the clubhouse and beyond.
With the back tees measuring almost 7,400 yards and its traditional design, The Magnolia continues to get chosen year after year by the USGA for local qualifiers, which speaks to the quality of the design as well as its continued appeal. One thing is certain, once a golfer has played Magnolia, they never forget it.
